What is the IoT?
“The IoT integrates the interconnectedness of human culture — our ‘things’ — with the interconnectedness of our digital information system — ‘the internet.’ That’s the IoT,” Ashton named it in 1999.
As explained, the Internet of Things is named by Kevin Ashton. he coined the phrase ‘Internet of Things’, it was short for IoT later on. Although it took at least another decade for the technology to catch up with the vision. When we look back now, it was a great imagination and practice. such created enormous inventions and influenced the life style and running of the world. Since then, a New Era of internet connectivity came.
For better understanding, IBM explained IoT as below. [quote]The Internet of Things (IoT) refers to a network of physical devices, vehicles, appliances, and other physical objects that are embedded with sensors, software, and network connectivity, allowing them to collect and share data.[/quote]

According to IBM, IoT devices—also known as “smart objects”—can range from simple “smart home” devices like smart thermostats, to wearables like smartwatches and RFID-enabled clothing, to complex industrial machinery and transportation systems. Moreover, technologists are even envisioning entire “smart cities” predicated on IoT technologies.
IoT enables these smart devices to communicate with each other and with other internet-enabled devices. Like smartphones and gateways, creating a vast network of interconnected devices that can exchange data and perform various tasks autonomously. This can include:
- monitoring environmental conditions in farms
- managing traffic patterns with smart cars and other smart automotive devices
- controlling machines and processes in factories
- tracking inventory and shipments in warehouses
The potential applications of IoT are vast and varied, and its impact appeared across a wide range of industries, including manufacturing, transportation, healthcare, and agriculture.
